The Client

Our client is the national flag carrier of a major Asia-Pacific nation, operating from a principal hub in Bangkok and serving destinations across Asia, Europe and Oceania as a member of a leading global airline alliance.

The airline has maintained a registered UK establishment since 1993. The UK operation is responsible for commercial sales, reservations and ticketing, cargo, finance and trade partner relationships across the UK and Ireland market, and acts as the operational and commercial interface between headquarters and the airline’s flagship London route.

Our Role

For over ten years, Cloudscape has served as the dedicated IT partner to the airline’s UK operations. We provide the UK team with a complete managed service — service desk, infrastructure and cloud management, cyber security operations, project delivery and strategic technology planning through our Virtual IT Director (vCIO) function.

We operate as a seamless extension of the airline’s internal IT function, working within the governance and technical standards set by headquarters while providing the local responsiveness, UK regulatory knowledge and on-site engineering capability the operation requires. Most recently, Cloudscape led the technology workstream for the relocation of the airline’s UK office — designing and building the network infrastructure, procuring and installing connectivity, and coordinating directly with the fit-out and mechanical and electrical contractors from design stage through to handover.

Challenges

  • Relocating the UK office without interrupting reservations, ticketing or cargo service
  • Coordinating IT delivery alongside base-build and fit-out contractors to a fixed handover date
  • Establishing resilient connectivity for an operation that cannot afford to be offline
  • Operating in aviation, now among the most heavily targeted sectors for cyber attack
  • Defending against identity-based intrusion and service desk social engineering — the dominant airline attack pattern
  • Protecting passenger, trade partner and cardholder data under UK GDPR and PCI DSS
  • Evidencing cyber assurance in line with CAA and NIS expectations
  • Legacy on-premise infrastructure and fragmented file storage constraining flexible working
  • Supporting UK office staff and airport-based teams across multiple locations

Solutions

  • End-to-end network infrastructure design and build for the new office, with a phased out-of-hours cutover delivered without any loss of business-hours service
  • Cloudscape acting as technical lead throughout the construction programme — setting containment, power and cooling requirements, attending site progress meetings and formally signing off comms room readiness ahead of installation
  • Diverse primary and secondary internet circuits with automatic failover, resilient edge networking, and secure connectivity to airline, GDS and alliance systems
  • A layered defence programme applied across the full estate to counter aviation-sector cyber threats
  • Hardened identity verification procedures for all service desk password and MFA resets, controlled self-service reset, and continuous phishing simulation and user awareness training
  • Data classification and sensitivity labelling, DLP, encryption in transit and at rest, segmentation of the cardholder data environment, and documented retention and control evidence
  • A control set documented and mapped to CAP 1850 and NCSC guidance, Cyber Essentials maintained, and evidence packs prepared for group and regulatory review
  • Migration to Microsoft 365 and Azure, decommissioning of legacy on-premise servers and consolidation of collaboration onto SharePoint and Teams
  • A service desk operating against defined SLAs, with scheduled on-site engineering attendance and escalation paths aligned to headquarters working hours

Business Impact

  • Business-hours downtime during office relocation Zero cutover completed out of hours
  • Network availability since cutover 99.99%
  • First-contact resolution rate Improved from 61% to 84%
  • Monthly support ticket volume Reduced by 30%
  • Priority 1 incidents, year on year Reduced by 72%
  • Phishing simulation failure rate Reduced from 23% to 4%
  • Microsoft Secure Score Improved by 34 points
  • New starter onboarding time Reduced from two days to under two hours
Client testimonial

Don’t just take our word for it

“Cloudscape have looked after our UK operation for more than ten years, and the office move showed exactly why that relationship matters. They were involved from the design stage, worked directly with our contractors, and moved us into the new building without a single hour of lost service. Security is a serious matter for any airline, and we have complete confidence that our systems, our people and our passengers’ data are properly protected.”
